Hubert Zitt – a professor at the Zweibrücken University of Applied Sciences – has transformed the Zweibrück Observatory of the Natural Science Association into a giant R2-D2.
Zitt completed the project alongside master painter Klaus Ruffing, his father-in-law Horst Helle and a small team of helpers back in September 2018

The redesign caught the eyes of Star Wars fans everywhere including Mark Hamill who tweeted “R2-D2 Observatory Transformed Germans Into Giant Nerds.”

To our knoweld,ge this is actually the second Obersvatory R2-D2 transformation. Goodsell Observatory at Carleton College in Minnesota was also transformed in 2010.
