The world’s steepest funicular line has opened at the Alpine resort of Stoos in Switzerland.
The Schwyz-Stoos funicular (Standseilbahn Schwyz-Stoos in German) railway can climb a 110% gradient and cost an estimated €44.6m. The railway went into public service last Sunday and has been hailed as a triumph of modern design engineering.
It will be used to connect to the car-free mountain village Stoos and sets a new world record for the steepest railway in the world.
