Solar powered plane completes historic journey

Solar Impulse, the aircraft which is solely powered by the sun, has finished a historic 7,200km trip across the Pacific from Japan to Hawaii. The plane is covered with 17,000 photovoltaic cells which power the plane’s electric motors directly or charge its lithium-ion batteries. The next leg of the aircraft’s journey will be between Hawaii and Phoenix, Arizona.
