Shoppers power the Christmas lights

As part of Small Business Saturday, Pavegen Systems, a British technology firm, installed a power generating pavement in Brighton on a popular independent high street to promote the UK’s small independent ships.

Pavegen Systems installed 120 power-generating tiles, which will harness the kinetic energy of the footsteps of an estimated 41,000 shoppers over a week.

This will then be converted to renewable energy to power the street’s Christmas lights.
