New method to stop electronic devices spreading hospital infections

Tablets and mobile phones are commonly used throughout hospitals, although can transport germs which help spread infections.

Researchers have now developed an antimicrobial coating to kill germs before they can be transferred around hospitals. The new material is transparent and covers handheld devices entirely, so they can be used as normal.

It is hoped the technology could be used in the future to protect various medical tools from infection, such as surgical instruments.
