Japan restarts its nuclear power program after the Fukushima disaster

The 2011 nuclear disaster forced Japan to close all its nuclear power plants, due to public concerns about safety. The Kyushu Electric Plant in Sendai was the first to restart this week, after passing a number of new safety tests. 25 plants have applied to restart in coming months and years, although nuclear power is still seen as very controversial by the Japanese public.
