Following the historic detection of gravitational waves earlier this month, India’s government has indicated its initial approval to build its own gravitational wave detector, LIGO-India. This detector would complement the two already built in the US, allowing scientists to triangulate the sources of these ripples in space and time. Glasgow University’s Sheila Rowan, a member of the international LIGO team, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to see that the funding for LIGO-India looks like it might come about.”
