This week, Renewable Energy Systems (RES), a global renewable energy company, announced its first UK contract to build and support a battery energy storage system to demonstrate the benefits of energy storage on the grid for developers and distribution network operators. The company has previously pioneered energy storage projects in both the US and Canada, with a total energy storage construction portfolio of 78MW. The EPC contract has been signed with Western Power (WPD), the main electricity distributor for the South West, South Wales and the Midlands. It is part of a major initiative that WPD are running to investigate the technical and commercial feasibility of battery energy storage in the UK.
